City of Belmont

Main Street District

Main street

Belmont rejoined North Carolina's Main Street Program in 2013 with the vision of connecting the East Belmont commercial districts to the Main Street commercial district and to boost the flow of people within our local shops. The Main Street Program is a state and national program consisting of downtown revitalization projects that focus on ways to use local historical assets to boost economic development. Historic Downtown

Downtown Belmont was settled around the 1750's and originally called Garibaldi Station. It later became Belmont in 1833, which means "Beautiful Mountain" because of it's close proximity to Crowders Mountain. Downtown Belmont Historic District has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1996, and also contains roughly 264 buildings and 2 structures that were built between 1850 and 1949.
