Moonlight On Main

The Downtown Belmont Development Association (DBDA) is proud to announce its major Fall event – Moonlight on Main. This event will feature three weeks of vibrant lights, art, and cultural experiences centered around an international touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram, entitled “Museum of the Moon”, in downtown Belmont, NC. The exhibit is an internally lit replica of the moon measuring 23 feet in diameter and features detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. The installation also features surrounding composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award winning composer, Dan Jones. During the event, the moon will be hung over the seating area at the Stowe Park amphitheater in downtown Belmont. Belmont’s Moonlight on Main three-week experience begins Friday, October 22, 2021 and runs until November 7, 2021.

Moonlight on Main will turn downtown Belmont into a lunar-inspired, outdoor art gallery with GOBO artwork projected onto buildings around downtown. The event will also feature art installations in downtown and throughout Stowe Park from local students and other groups. The original GOBO artworks can be found for sale in various downtown galleries and businesses throughout the event.

The three weekends of this event will feature a diversity of programming and activities to be paired with viewing the Museum of the Moon exhibit. These programs will include music performances ranging from Jazz by Maria Howell and Noel Freidline to The Pink Floyd Experience with Caleb Davis & Friends, as well as an educational presentation by the Schiele Museum. The DBDA hopes that visitors of any age and background will find a performance, activity, or experience to enjoy during this event.

Visitors can download the Belmont GO app for free maps, guides, and tours of downtown Belmont. During the Moonlight on Main event, there will be a tour on the app that will take visitors on a walking tour of the outdoor art gallery.

The DBDA would like to thank the following event sponsors for their support: City of Belmont, Gaston County Travel and Tourism, Montcross Area Chamber of Commerce, Belmont Tourism Development Authority, Garland Burks Marketing, Duke Energy, Tech Works of Gaston County, Standard Distributors, Elements of Empowerment, The Everyday Market, The Schiele Museum, Creative Solutions, McLean, Lowe’s, Wilbert Plastics, Gaston Printing and Signs, Robert Stowe Foundation, Hannon Orthodontics, Garibaldi Realty, Black Star Theater Company, Gigi’s Boutique, Magnolia and Vine, and Belmont Yoga.
